Merritt Parkway Accident: Two Trapped in Orange as Racebrook Road Reopens
Two people were trapped after a crash on Route 15 in Orange, Connecticut, on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with one person taken to hospital.
Elsewhere, a section of Racebrook Road in Woodbridge reopened following a police investigation into a Merritt Parkway crash.
The reports cover incidents at different times and locations. Drivers checking travel conditions should pay attention to the town, direction and time attached to each update.
Two People Trapped After Orange Crash
Connecticut State Police said emergency crews responded at 4:17 p.m. after two vehicles rolled into woods beside Route 15 southbound. Each vehicle had one person trapped inside.
Responders reported that one person was in cardiac arrest and another was unconscious. Police confirmed that one person was transported to a local hospital.
The road was closed in the area while emergency personnel and state transportation crews worked.
A collision analysis and reconstruction squad was requested, according to the New Haven Register. The report described the investigation as ongoing and did not identify a cause.
Racebrook Road Reopens in Woodbridge
Woodbridge police said Racebrook Road had been closed between Ansonia Road and Orange Center Road while state police investigated a crash on the Merritt Parkway.
The section reopened shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday. According to the New Haven Register, police had not released further information about that crash by 8:45 p.m.
That reopening applied to Racebrook Road. It should not be read as confirmation that every affected section of Route 15 had reopened.
An earlier emergency near Exit 46 also brought police and medical crews to Route 15. WTNH reported that responders found a driver unresponsive inside a vehicle and began CPR.
Emergency medical personnel continued lifesaving efforts before taking the driver to hospital with life threatening injuries.
WTNH described the affected roadway as northbound. Separately, a Connecticut Department of Transportation advisory listed a southbound closure between exits 46 and 42B following a crash involving one vehicle, reported at 6:03 a.m. Those accounts differ on direction, so they should not be combined into a single traffic notice.
Where to Check Merritt Parkway Traffic
For current Merritt Parkway traffic conditions, drivers can check CTroads before setting out. The state service provides information about crashes, road closures, construction, travel times and traffic speeds. Its map also offers access to traffic camera images.
A report published during Saturday’s emergency response may still appear online after conditions have changed.
Check the date and the latest update before treating a closure notice as current. A reopened local road and an ongoing highway restriction can also appear in separate updates.
Regular commuters can create a CTroads account, save their usual routes and arrange notifications by email or text.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation says these alerts can notify users about events affecting their selected routes. Users can also adjust notification times and event types to keep alerts relevant to their regular travel plans.
Before leaving, review the full journey rather than checking only one exit. If a closure affects the route, allow extra travel time and follow posted diversions and instructions from officers.
For information about the people involved or the cause of a crash, look for a subsequent police statement or an updated report quoting investigators. Traffic maps can help with the journey, but they do not establish what caused a collision.
