Jackson Nightclub Shooting: Two Dead and Six Injured During Halloween Party

Two people were killed and six others were injured when gunfire broke out during a Halloween celebration at the Hideaway Nightclub in Jackson, Mississippi, early Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. at the venue on Interstate 55 North Frontage Road. Police said two masked suspects entered the club before one opened fire into the crowd.

The violence also prompted Jackson State University to cancel undergraduate classes for two days and move graduate courses online as the campus community responded to the news.

Victims Identified After Deadly Shooting

Authorities identified the two people killed as Lovdai Poindexter, 20, and Jada Henderson, 18. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to WLBT.

Six other people were taken to local hospitals. Officials said their injuries appeared unlikely to be life threatening. The injured included four women, ages 18, 18, 19 and 20, and two men, ages 19 and 20.

Earlier reports listed four people injured, but police updates on Sunday raised that number to six. That brought the total number of people killed or wounded to eight.

The gathering was a Halloween costume party that continued into the early hours of Sunday. Police have not announced a motive, and the information released so far does not explain why the gunman fired into the crowd.

Police Search for Two Masked Suspects

Investigators said their preliminary findings pointed to two unidentified men who entered the nightclub wearing ski masks shortly before the shooting. One of those men then pulled out a firearm and began shooting.

No arrests had been announced as of Sunday afternoon. Detectives were interviewing witnesses and working to identify both suspects.

Evidence technicians collected and logged multiple shell casings at the nightclub. Investigators were also seeking surveillance footage from the area to help establish what happened, WLBT reported.

The case remains open, with police still working to determine what led to the attack. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects to contact investigators.

Tips can be shared with the Jackson Police Department at 601 960 1800 or Crime Stoppers at 601 355 8477. The request for information comes as detectives continue gathering evidence and speaking with people who may have witnessed the gunfire.

Jackson State Cancels Undergraduate Classes

Jackson State University canceled undergraduate classes for Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3. Graduate classes will continue through virtual instruction, according to WLBT.

Jackson State said members of its student body were among the victims of the shooting, which happened at a nightclub away from the university campus.

University President Dr. Denise Jones Gregory expressed sympathy for affected students and their families in an email sent Sunday. She urged students, faculty and staff to seek support and check on one another.

Students with internships, externships or clinical placements are still expected to meet attendance requirements. Those unable to attend should contact their assigned instructor.

Administrative and academic offices will remain open, along with the Lottie W. Thornton Early Childhood Center.

The university directed its community toward available support services, including the Latasha Norman Center for Counseling Services, the Employee Assistance Program, Quality Care and the UMMC UNITE Clinic.

Gregory’s message asked the campus community to offer patience, compassion and comfort in the days ahead as students and employees process the loss.
